May 15th Jump Jam at Depot Park in Santa Cruz

The City of Santa Cruz, The Bicycle Trip and Barry Swenson Builders are hosting a Jump Jam at Depot Park in Santa Cruz with a cash purse.

Come celebrate Bike Week Santa Cruz and rail and trail day. There will be booths (including MBOSC) and food and drinks and bike valet parking provided by People Power.

WHERE: Depot Bicycle Trip Jump Park Santa Cruz (Big Bike festival, post rail trail road ride)

ENTRY PRO JAM DEMO ADMISSION: free for demo (invitation only)

COMBINED CLASS PRIZE MONEY: 1^st place = $ 500.00, 2^nd place = $ 300.00, 3^rd place = $ 200.00,

CLASSES: small wheel 20” BMX and big wheel 26” mt. bike (invite only)

EVENT JUDGES: general Public Voting (ballots and pens and pencils)

Please attend the Santa Cruz City Council Meeting to Support the Jump Park

Earlier this month the Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to move forward with the relocation of the Fun Spot bike park. We would like to thank the SC Parks and Rec Commission for your support for recreational cycling.

The next phase of this project is to attend the City Council meeting at the Santa Cruz City Council on Tuesday Feb 24th at 3 pm to support the relocation of the bike park. Note the time has changed from Jesse’s earlier messages.

The current plan is to relocate the park around the corner to a permanent location at Depot Park. Your comments should be in support of the relocation plan and you should also express your support for a public jump park in general.

Mark Reynolds Memorial Fund

Mark Reynolds was a family man, tech guy and avid mountain biker in the Bay Area. His passion for the sport inspired him to create his company Wicked Racin to create high quality products for gravity riders. He was racing Downhill at the Sea Otter on April 19th and he never made it to the finish line.

While I did not know Mark personally, his life, career path and passion for mountain biking is similar to my own and describes the many mountain bikers that I have the privilege of knowing in the Bay Area. I have been contacted by close friends and family of Mark and I have learned so much about his life in these past few weeks. I feel saddened by the fact that I may have ridden with him in the past but I never really got to know him.

Mark was passionate about mountain biking and wanted to bring more people into the sport. He was generous with his time, teaching his friends how to jump and be better riders. Mark's family have set up a memorial fund to honor his memory. The fund will raise money towards a freeride/jump park/pump track that will be named after Mark so that people of all levels can enjoy the sport of mountain biking.

There will be raffle at the CCCX DH season finale in June which will benefit the memorial fund. Raffle tickets will be sold at the races and other locations.

As a friend and mountain biker I'm asking you to contribute to the Mark Reynolds Memorial fund.
