Shuttle Smith: A Bike Shuttle from Aptos to SDSF/Nisene

Dave Smith has been mountain biking for a long time and used to work in the construction industry. With the downturn in construction he started a new business to called "Shuttle Smith" which provides a service to shuttle riders from Aptos to Buzzard Lagoon road near the East entrance of Nisene Marks. Dave converted his cube van and can securely carry 9 bikes and riders.

The goal is to provide a way that riders can get to SDSF and upper Nisene Marks without driving. After a loop or two in SDSF then you can ride down the Nisene Marks fireroad back down to Aptos. Or you can ride over to Aptos to catch the shuttle and meet some friends at  SDSF.

The service costs $15 and starts June 5th 2010 with pickup next to Epicenter Cycling in Aptos Station at 9:00 am, 11 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. See the Shuttle Smith flyer for more details.

Dave is quite flexible to provide shuttle services for other locations or you can rent Dave and his van for special events.

I applaud Dave's entrepreneurial spirit and he recognizes there is a market for mountain bike tourism and services.

Call Dave at 831-234-3383 to make a reservation.

Beware that State Parks rangers are now randomly patrolling the West Ridge Trail in Nisene Marks. My buddy and his friend got tickets yesterday and were told that the rangers planned to make regular trips up the trail to the utility lines and back.

Sounds good until you think about what people are really going to do with this service. A shuttle service to the top of a State Park with no legal mountain bike trails above the valley floor is just not cool buddy. You are going to make a few bucks and potentially cause a lot of harm to the SC scene. Please find another way to generate income.

Shuttle smith is great. I ran it last weekend and I was completely legal!! I biked down the center fire road and it was a blast of downhill. Dave offers a great service and you can be legal on the fire road. I have done trail maintenance for years at the state parks and contribute to the repair and building trails, supervised by the Park Rangers, so go contribute!

My girlfriend and I just used Dave's Shuttle Smith service last week. We had a blast in Demo on a two hour loop, then enjoyed a nice long cruise through Marks on the fire road back to town.

Thank's Shuttle smith!

Why don't you put your company name/logo on your shuttle bus?

This shuttle is praise by bikers that can't get to places where you have to ride a bike up hill. To get these out of shape bikers the experience of riding down aptos creek road we are enabling another sector of down hill bikers that use the shuttle service to ride illegal bike trails (West Ridge and medicine budda)

The folks running medince budda area have already complained about the loud bikers trasspassing into thier quite zone.

Since this shuttle began, there has been an increase in bikers riding down West Ridge and Medicine Budda.

I do not call this "preserving our park system" I call this making a buck at the expense of our park system.
